Incipio Feather Case for iPhone 3G, 3GS (Black)

Peeling and Broken in less than a month 2010-07-14

I purchased a black-matte Incipio Feather Ultra Thin Case for my husband's IPhone at Wal-mart about 2 months ago and in less than one month the finish started peeling off. So now it's half matte, half glossy. When I took it off to see if I could just peel off the whole thing and make it all glossy, the very thin part above the volume control button snapped. Needless to say, my husband was not thrilled. He loved the case when I first bought it, but now he just wants to throw it out. I just wrote Incipio about the warranty - we'll see what they say...

This case is pretty sleek-looking... at least for a while. It has a nice texture on the back, grips the phone really well, and doesn't block the headphone jack. It is surprisingly durable for being so thin. Those are the pros.

Other things you should know: the texture on the back will start to chip away like cheap paint once it gets scratched, and especially on the sides if you keep this thing in your pocket. I have had mine for several months and it's broken in two places: one, the thin bar which covers the silver bevel near the exposed silent toggle and volume control, and again on the bottom corner (which baffles me, since it is completely solid there and it wasn't dropped).

In short? This is a great iPhone case, for about two months. It gets three stars because I'm still using it, but it's long term durability is not so great.

Covering Peeled within 3 Days 2010-06-23

Read reviews of this and took a chance that this case would peel. Black color was recommended because it had least number of reported peelings, however within 3 days the soft-touch covering on the plastic began to come off. It is a mess, it gets everywhere. I have been trying to scrape off all the covering so get down to the just the plastic to try and salvage this case, but in the end will just buy something else. Stay away, its guaranteed to peel.

This is by far one of the better cases available for the 3GS it is smooth and thin!! It fits nicely giving the user a feel that the case is hardly there are than the fact that your phone feels smooth on the back. It even include screen protectors and a wipe.

DO NOT BUY THIS CASE- Coating peels instantly 2010-06-12

UPDATE- I just browsed through other reviews and clearly I'm not the first one to notice the coating peeling off.

I had one of these cases which cracked so I bought a replacement from Amazon. The one I received from Amazon looked almost identical to my old case, but has major quality issues- the matte finish coating started peeling off almost instantly. In fact, it peels off by simply scratching the case with a fingernail, revealing a glossy plastic base.
Which leads me to believe it's either-

1. A manufacturing defect affecting only certain batch of these
2. A knock-off case of inferior quality (I did notice a slight difference in the typeface of the word "Incipio" on the case between my old case and the one I ordered on Amazon- go figure)

I went to Tekserv in Manhattan today and bought yet another one of these (I bought my original case there as well)- it has no issues and the coating is "scratch-resistant"
